Monochrome

For those who regularly read fashion magazines or keep up with the latest catwalk trends, you may already know this, but those who don't I thought I'd share it! You may have noticed that many new styles such as monochrome (Moschino), (even 1960's paraphernalia) and flower Power (Prada) and other bold colours are slowly creeping there way into this S/S season. Frankly, I love it!
Moschino fashion show, Milan
‘Colour played a vital role alongside our black and white, but I used these in different proportions this time, shorter and for the first time we used silver not gold.’ Said Jardini after the show.
Monochrome is popularly teemed with a pop of block colour. Also pinstripes are in this season, longer
leg effect = result!
Its even featured gliding down renowned shows such as Balmain, Giles and Alexander Wang.

I've seen alot of Monochrome filter from the Catwalks through to High-street  The other day I was in Cardiff, and as soon as I walked in to New Look I screamed MONOCHROME! As all the new stock displayed at the front of the store was, yes, you guessed it, black and white, classic mono! *sigh* love it!

mix it up with different patterns like polker dots

Prada Flower Power

Also big bold, block colours are appearing on catwalks recently, so any new styles you have seen and are keen to have a go at? let me know in the comments below! (wow that rhymed-weird)

AS Art and Clay

So here in Wales it's half term, this is basically a week off half way between our school term. Being in year 12 I have exams coming up, so to catch up I took a little trip in to my schools art department with my friend Emma, basically just to get some art coursework done. As much as I hated the early start (up at 7am! *exaggerated yawn*), I enjoyed it when I got there.
Me and Emma never take photos seriously! She came with me to finish some art.

Luckily we weren't in school for too long and we had the chance to catch a train to Cardiff afterwards, whew! So we got to work on our clay, it was too messy to handle, but as I was with Emma we had a laugh which made it bearable.

This is the pot I've made for the coursework side of my course, its based upon India. The ripples in the clay are to represent the flowing fabric of Indian sari's, and the details are inspired  by Indian Mehndi and Henna designs! (excuse the paper cup- it's to hold the handle up while it dries)

L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil

Today I had a little surprise which I thought I should share with you guys. I was flicking through Cosmopolitan magazine *big eyes* (which I adore! - it was the March 2013 issue) and I came across the advertisement for the L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil (rrp: £9.99) , and Cosmo being the great magazine it is, had a free sample for each reader, I mean, what a bonus!
I have never tried hair oil, so clearly I was a tad nervous.

Of course I thought I would give it a try and tell you what I think. In the advertisement it proclaims that this product gives your hair five benefits:
  1. Hair has a glowing shine.
  2. Feels intensely nourished.
  3. Flows with Silky softness.
  4. Seems Sumptuously smooth.
  5. Looks beautifully perfected.
But did it really do all that it boasted? Well, actually it came up tops with most of it's claims. I did as it said and rubbed a few drops on my hand and applied it to the ends of my hair, and instantly it looked smoother, it was soft and smelt wonderful! - Floral extracts such as lotus oil, chamomile oil and rose oil nourish, protect, and soften the hair- I was pleasantly surprised and have been spurred on to buy the product, also I recommend it! If I'm honest i thought it would leave my hair greasy, but it did nothing of the sought *happy sigh* = happy Beth! (also you can apply this product before shampooing or when hair is damp- convenient!)
Sorry I couldn't resist using the product before I snapped a pic!

This is what the actual product looks like (the image is not my own) Is it sad that I love the bottle?

Capturing Moments

I'm that type of person who likes to document things. Also I'm a bit of a hoarder, I keep all of my old fashion magazines, simply to create mood boards or scrap booking. I keep lots of little sentimental things that take up room and frustrate my parents. But I love it when you look through old stuff and remember back, it's like a little memory bank! Especially pictures, the weirder or more spontaneous the better, pictures can hold so many memories, feelings and good or bad times, i guess I enjoy taking photographs, and that I have no reason for.
So heres a little collection of silly photos and snapshots that I really like looking back on! I just really wish I had Instagram (I'm too jealous of my sister who is constantly sharing her photos). Do you have Instagram?

Well, gosh, so many photos! For that I apologize, I may of got a little carried away. But hey, each of these have a meaning or story. If one day you decide to come back on this page, being the curious creatures we are, I may share those stories, but if you choose not to come back, I understand. I'd have to think about that too!

Muted Brown Smokey Eye

weird title I know, but what better way to describe it then that? So basically I got to play make up artist for the day! Playing with make-up really excites me because you can create whatever look you fancy! I even had the opportunity to to the make-up and help out for my school's musical, Grease (in love!) Since then I've caught the make-up (everyday and media based) bug! I can't decide if that's good or bad...
Here I am bobby-pinning wigs with the fantastically talented Ellie Stimpson, aka Miss Lych!
and again selling programmes. I must admit I miss this, *sob sob*

Tonight when I came home, I was met with my sister (Abbey) asking to do her make-up, I was a little suspicious as why she would choose me, but of course I wouldn't deny! When it came to choosing what to do, I wanted to keep it simple as she's only young and going out with some of her friends, also I didn't want something too heavy as she rarely wears more than a coat of mascara!
I have been a complete fool and forgotten to take a before photo, so I've pinched Hannah's photo with Abbey with no make-up.

Well this is where the fun starts, for me anyway! For the base I used Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation and a light concealer under her eyes. I love this foundation, its really subtle but gives good coverage and is enriched with nutrients that are heaven for your skin- bonus!

Abbey has slightly dry skin (but the foundation glided on effortlessly- thanks Bourjois) so I didn't use any loose or condensed powder as this would create a patchy effect- which we don't want for sure!

To contour her cheek structure and face I added bronzer (lightly- for slight definition) to her cheekbones, jawline and temples. I think this adds a subtle and none obvious glow, a shy step from being pale as a ghost.

Next up was her eyes, I wanted this to be nice and feminine but with a pinch of attitude at the same time. I brushed peach shadow on her eye lid with a rounded-end brush for a base to add colour.(Also I added some highlighter the bridge of her nose and above the cheekbones to catch natural and artificial light to create a flattering look). I guess I created a brown smoky eye by using two tones of brown. To add shadow on the outer eye I used a shade darker shadow and blended it form the outer corners then inwards, and up into her brow.

Because I wanted to keep Abbey's overall look minimal but impacting I used a shadow instead of eye-liner  I applied it with a paintbrush (weird I know) for precision along her upper and lower lash line- using a darker shade of eye shadow than the shadow used on her outer eyes- to create and complete the smoky eyed look!
I of course finished with a few lashes of mascara and was complete. I hope Abbey liked it *eek*, well she didn't say other wise!

Thanks for being my model Ab's- you were lush ( and it was very very brave of you to let me experiment on your face!) I think it actually turned out okay, what do you think?
